Merck announces a children vaccine recall of certain lots of PEDVAXHIB and COMVAX. PEDVAXHIB is a Haemophilus influenzae type B vaccine while COMVAX is a combination Haemophilus influenzae type B / hepatitis B vaccine. The recall is specific 11 lots of PEDVAXHIB and 2 lots of COMVAX vaccines manufactured by Merck, distribution started in April 2007. Merck says the potential for contamination of any individual vaccine is low, but because the Company cannot assure the sterility of these specific lots of vaccine, it is conducting this recall. Physicians are advised not to administer any vaccine from the vaccine lots being recalled.

Pizza products under the brand names Totino’s and Jeno’s (General Mills) are being recalled nationwide. The recalled frozen pizzas with pepperoni toppings maybe contaminated with E. coli bacteria O157:H7. Symptoms of E. coli can include severe stomach cramps followed by diarrhea. Recalled are only about 400,000 Tostinos and Jenos boxes labelled ‘EST 7750′ in the USDA mark and best used date of April 2, 2008.
